Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy: Anne Sofie Madsen Spring 2013

It seems like ages since I last wrote about the Danish designer Anne Sofie Madsen.  Out of the many incredible talents that I've seen coming out of Denmark and Sweden, Madsen is definitely one of the most exciting, so it was a true pleasure to see her show in New York during the Gen Art show.  Her collections are vividly imbued with beautiful madness, intricately detailed and embellished with tulle, sparkles, and dripping shoelace straps.  Madsen, who is also a gifted illustrator, also creates her own dreamy prints, which often play a central role in the narrative of her collections.  This season Madsen was inspired by amusement parks, and this collection appears to combine the sleazy fun of Coney Island, with the cursed carnivalesque elements of Pinocchio's Pleasure Island.  My photographs hardly do the collection justice, but you can see plenty more images from the show on the Gen Art website.

Her work is spectacular, completely fresh, it doesn't feel derivative of anything else which is so exciting. Thanks for sharing, I'm going to go trawl through more photos!
