Dark Wave

Odilon

Some things will never go out of style. Black and gray have been the uniform for New Yorkers for time eternal, and I have plenty of friends who refuse to stray from this color palette. Both Katie Gallagher and Odilon have demonstrated a consistent penchant for black, but usually add a few pops of color for some contrast. This Fall, the designers of Odilon were inspired by the story of the Greek Goddess Persephone, and her transformation from a naive girl into the Queen of the Underworld. Highlights included angular fur gilets, dramatic wool capes and jackets, and some eyecatching jewels made from painted animal skulls. Katie Gallagher's collection also had the feel of epic mythology, with models looking somewhat possessed. Many of the garments were deconstructed into dozens of pieces, and put together again to form a patchwork of contrasting textures, and season after season these pieces have become a part of Katie's signature voice. I also found myself obsessing over the shoes, which were designed by new talent Anastasia Radevich, and which embodied the gnarly-beautiful feel of the entire show.
