Urban Outfitters keeps on surprising us. I'm always impressed by their unending lineup of collaborations with the best young designers out there, including cult favorites like LD Tuttle and Slow and Steady Wins The Race (make sure to check out the mini shop-in-shop at the 14th Street location). Now, I'm pretty blown away that they chose downtown art world darling Hanna Liden to photograph the lookbook for their new Scorpio Rising collection. Known for her Gothic aesthetic, which is often transposed onto sweeping scenes of desolate landscapes, the Swedish-born photographer has done previous design collaborations with The Gap, but as far as I know, hasn't done much work in commercial fashion photography. It's pretty interesting to see her work in this context, and the images are still infused with the distinctly dreamy mood that Liden creates, even if they aren't overtly Gothic. Here are some pictures from the Urban Oufitters lookbook, as well as some of Liden's other photographs.

love her style and so excited for what's to come w/ URBN. everytime I pop by, i find new things
I was really surprised to see that U.O. collaborated with Lyell as one of the indie label collections. The designer was trying to sue them for copying a design of her denim shorts last year..
these are great photographs!
Just when I think I've got them sussed out with their Care Bear t-shirts and heart shaped bowls they go and throw something new at me.
UO keeps getting me hot under the collar with their new pieces. Really sucks every time a blogger mentions them because I always click on the link and browse through...and then realise they don't ship to Australia. Boo!
It's a really good year for collaborations! So excited for the collab
Oh, I think I read about Hannah Liden in i-D once a while back. It's nice to see her getting some mainstream recognition. I really like this!
I was so excited to see this line too. Definitely want the cutout shoulder sweatshirt dress!
What fantastic shots.
Love Grace.
they are so nice too!
UO continues to surprise me as well! Hanna Liden managed to translate her signature goth tone in the UO lookbook.
Wow. These are incredible!
I interviewed Hannah a few years ago or something. I think she is amazing, but these shots are kind of a waste of what she could do. Soft-core extreme. Boo.
